I'd do nothing but reading if I could (ok, maybe eat some great food, buy some fancy shoes between two books...oh, and spend some quality time with the gorgeous guy I married while I am on reading-break anyway...)

A bit outside of the run-of-the-mill vampire stuff....

Cronin's Key (Cronin's Key #1) - N.R. Walker

But not so new and original to rate more than three stars.

The old Egyptian stuff is not so unusual with vampire books (see Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice), but it is not a trope, so I would count it as a unusual take.

What I didn't like so much was the whole "fated mates" stuff. I don't like it in shifter books, as it takes away a lot of suspense and tension between the couple and it didn't work for me here. The couple was quite boring to me, to be honest. So I deduct half a star here.

Also: I really really dislike this whole "I have to kill to live" story line with vampires. It is totally shitty. And it doesn't really fit with a police officer to be totally ok with his boyfriend going out to kill a human every night. Even if it is a criminal, by the way. It is still killing.

I immensely dislike this. And therefore deduct another one.

All in all, it was an ok read. But I am not interested enough to check out other books in this series.
