I didn't like Grace. She was whiny and not an attractive or interesting protagonist.

Her inner monologues were full of telling, but there was no showing, e.g. she reflects about how much she is bitching around and how sarcastic she is. In the following scenes she comes across as weak and shy and embarrassed and awkward.

That's a bit as if someone boasts how gracefull they are, and then stumble over their own feet. Not cool.

I liked the whole idea of the independent single mom who rescues the world - and the prologue really let me hope that this would be one hell of a great read. 

And then the next 30% are so boring and painful to read, that I DNFed.

Not sure what happened here. But I didn't want to waste another hour with waiting for the story to pick up.
