I'd do nothing but reading if I could (ok, maybe eat some great food, buy some fancy shoes between two books...oh, and spend some quality time with the gorgeous guy I married while I am on reading-break anyway...)

Intense, revolting, fascinating and sometimes even, well, funny.

King of Thorns - Mark Lawrence

Best citation for me: "The thing about the path less travelled is that it is often less travelled for a good reason."

This is King Jorg for you. Pragmatic, power-hungry, dark, amoral, evil and interesting. The dry sense of humor that shows rarely but poignantly.

It boggles the mind why one would like him, might feel in any way close to him or would be interested in his fate. And as he matures and becomes somewhat more human, the plot unfolds brilliantly.

The world-building is top-notch, but what really separates this from pretty much every fantasy I ever read is the plot. The story line has many twists and turns and a lot of surprises. But all of them make sense. Beautifully done.
