I'd do nothing but reading if I could (ok, maybe eat some great food, buy some fancy shoes between two books...oh, and spend some quality time with the gorgeous guy I married while I am on reading-break anyway...)

So this is a bit like "The empire strikes back".

Heir to the Shadows - Anne Bishop

...the episode nobody likes. (I am exaggerating, but still...you know what I mean)

This books is not exactly boring. But it has too much of the same, too much repetition, too much text for not enough happening.

I didn't like the "Daemon is rotting in madness, but we have better stuff to do" theme. Also the sloooooow healing of Jaenelle's emotional hurts were not that interesting. Really not.

And what really really gets on my nerves? How imcompetent the bad guys are.

I mean Saetan is really bad ass and all this, Jaenelle has power to explode the whole world, but still puny little idiots try to piss in their cereal? And don't learn after the tenth swatted attempt, even while seeing how the morons who tried get blasted to nothingness? Really?

Unfortunately this has so many plotholes and implausibilities that you have to suspend major disbelief. And that says a lot for a fantasy book...

It is well written and I am looking forward to the conclusion, but it has some quirks I don't enjoy (and I'd appreciate if the silly, non-funny jokes could stop. Very much).
